Go For 2&5 Regional Schools Touring Program
Spare Parts has a long serving commitment to presenting highly imaginative, world-class productions that warm hearts and create infectious joy. We are excited to announce that in 2019, in partnership with Healthway (promoting the Go for 2&5 message), Horizon Power and the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries, we will be delivering performances of Blueback and workshops to a huge number of schools in regional areas of Western Australia.
Students, teachers, children and adults are invited to explore puppetry with Spare Parts Puppet Theatre through both our performances and workshops as part of our 10-week regional schools tour.
This year our Go For 2&5 Regional Schools Tour will head to the Wheatbelt, Peel, South-West & Great Southern regions from 25 Feb – 5 April, 2019 before making its way to the Mid-west and Gascoyne regions from 1 May – 17 May, 2019.
What’s on tour?
Blueback – adapted by Peta Murray from the book by Tim Winton, is an extraordinary work, and one of the richest resources on offer for any teacher – the very best vehicle to get any child reading.
Tim Winton’s exquisite language is translated into an aural narrative between a mother and her son. Juxtaposed by a visual world transforming between underwater swims with a life-sized groper and the coastal town Abel Jackson calls home.
Blueback is a not only a comprehensive feast of general capability skills it spans numerous learning areas. Lists, seasons, cycles of life, the fishing industry, sustainability, ethical understanding, personal and social capability are all very present.
The fusion of aural and visual media provides experimentation and investigation in music, the drama of the story telling using puppets and people. Economics and business is at the heart of a developer wanting to buy the place Abel and his Mother call home.
Age Appropriateness: Blueback is perfect for Kindergarten–Year 6, and is also suitable for Years 7+ for students studying Drama or subjects related to the curriculum links listed below.
Run Time: 50-minute performance + 10-minute Q&A with performer and crew.
